Overview:
Biochemistry
The Biochemistry department is dedicated to analyzing various chemicals and enzymes in the body to diagnose and monitor metabolic and systemic conditions. Our tests provide valuable information about organ function, metabolic processes, and overall health.
Liver function tests assess the health and function of the liver by measuring enzyme levels and other substances. Abnormal results may indicate liver damage, inflammation, or disease.
Kidney function tests are typically performed using blood samples to measure substances that the kidneys filter out. These tests help evaluate kidney health and diagnose conditions such as chronic kidney disease.
Electrolytes are vital for maintaining fluid balance, nerve function, and muscle function. Abnormal electrolyte levels can indicate various health issues, including dehydration, kidney problems, or hormonal imbalances.
Liver Function Tests:
Liver function tests measure levels of enzymes, proteins, and other substances produced by the liver. These tests help assess liver health, detect liver diseases such as hepatitis or cirrhosis, and monitor treatment responses.
Kidney Function Tests:
Kidney function tests evaluate the performance of the kidneys by measuring substances filtered from the blood. Common tests include serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and glomerular filtration rate (GFR), which help diagnose and monitor kidney diseases.
Electrolyte Panel:
An electrolyte panel measures levels of essential electrolytes, such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and chloride, in the blood. These tests are crucial for maintaining fluid balance, muscle function, and overall health.
